You Should Always Try Something New
Many of you have met my mother who ascribes to the belief that if you don't like something you should try it every now and then in case you change your mind (most notably mashed potato, which I have not changed my mind about in 29 years).
12 years ago I went to several bad Opera's in a row and decided it just was not for me. However when my friend Ann asked if I wanted to see Tosca at the Royal Opera House for £5 I said sure. So Saturday I met Ann, Beryl, Si,Marilynn and several other people I worked with at Bridgewell House and we headed for the very top of the Opera House.
I have to say the views not bad from up there and while it did not fill me with the same excitement as a really good play, I did find myself enjoying it. I think my problem with Opera is that you become so distracted. It's in Italian, so you spend most of the time reading the subtitles above, which means you don't spend much time looking at the performers who are acting their hearts out and then when you are looking at the stage you become almost detatched from the music. I don't know it never swept me away which a great play can do. It also never made me really listen to the music like going to see the Corinthian Orchestra did, even when they have guest singers in, your not expected to follow a story but simply enjoy the music.
Afterwards we met up with Tasha and went to PJsbeingg Covent Garden, some of you might remember it from Dan's birthday a couple of years ago. Its fair to say they seemed to delighted to have us and four hours later they waved us all out with much good cheer. I love sitting around eating good food and just gossiping and giggling, there really is nothing better in life than that.
Another perfect day spent in London, I hope this bodes well for me moving their.

Hey All
Yesterday was one of those perfect days that don't come along very often and usually take you by surprise.
Tasha and I went to Clapham to have a little look and see what our budget might get us, it was not as bad as we thought and looks like we can probably do it.
We then met Jake for lunch at the Duck pub (yummy) pizza with odd toppings and then had a little wander around until we settled in a coffee shop garden for three hours.
I don't think there is anything better than making a coffee last three hours and chatting away about all maner of things. My favourite memories of university are of Jo and I sitting over cheap machine hot chocolate or Jane, Miranda and I nursing coffee and home made biscotti at Bar 163 - just sitting and gossiping about nothing in particular but letting the world slide by.
Tasha and I then decided we really wanted to see Brick. Someone from musicomh had recommended it to me and the Jake had also said it was excellent, a modern day film noir with the same sensibilites as the Maltese Falcon. So we went into Soho and saw it at the Curzon. Ladies and gentlemen if you like complex plots, riffing dialogue and film noir themes then you must rush out and see this it was bloody brilliant!!!!
I think this classes as one of those perfect days - heck the sun even shone.
